School Messenger is the most widely used messenging platform for schools and school districts to communicate to parents a variety
of alerts. These alerts range from snow day alerts, events, lunch balances and even active shooter notifications. The importance of the submission and the delivery of
the messages in a variety of ways is imperative. In addition, the school district staff needs to be able to form and deliver the messages in a simple, inutituve and flexible method.
While working for School Messenger, I developed both the “sender” and “recipient” mobile applications. Through research, user stories, personas, wireframes, prototypes and usablitiy testing, I developed a successful mobile app in an agile environment.
In order to gain a better understanding of the user needs for the products, I conducted research through interviews and written questionnaires. The collected data was then used in the creation of user stories and personas.
I developed user flows to establish the path the user would take to complete a particular task. By creating the user flows, I determined the right time to present the correct information to users and allow them to complete desired tasks in as few steps as possible.
Prioritizing user-center design, screen layouts and navigational elements were defined by creating wireframes.
Proxima Nova was used as the primary typeface of the application. Using contrasting sizes between large and small type helped create a hierarchy for information.
The primary colors of the application helped define the base canvas of the app. The color pallet was chosen to create clear contrasts and convey visual cues while feeling approachable.
Icons were created to provide a visual aid for communicating areas and actions the user wants or needs. The icons helped set the tone and make the app more enjoyable to use.
Every screen, their content and navigational elements were carefully explored and designed to provide the best possible experience to users.
